La competizione
Ore 7:45
Solo io, sotto
quel cielo brizzolato.
Solo io,
Ci
distanziammo fin dall'inizio.
Rallentai.
Tagliai il traguardo da terza, meglio così.
Giulia corse
da me, la abbracciai cadendole praticamente addosso. "Bravissima! Stavi
vincendo.
manifestando.
The competition
Hour
7:45
Only me, under
that light blue sky.
Only me, that
morning of the beginning of June.
Only me, to
wait that my class mates arrived.
That morning I
had to do the school athletics completions.
A foolishness,
you would say, but it was an important day for me.
It was a day
that could finish well, giving my class mates and my teachers a positive memory
of me, or not.
I was afraid
to make a poor showing, but I tried to don't think about it.
Hour 8:30
I was arrived
at the stadium, I was waiting to do my competition. I had to do it two hours
later...
Hour 11
"Girls of
the 800 metres run have to go to the present them selves to the
start.".
The shot of
the gun scanned the first of the thousand of beats of my heart.
Two turn of
the camp, only two turns, but in those 800 metres I have to give all of my own.
There were two
girls at the start, then there was me, and then the other girls. During the
first turn, I tried to don't go to quick to don't risk to arrive at the end of
the run without any force.
Second turn. I
couldn't win. They were too far. I was happy for a third place too, but I
preferred something more. So I tried.
My arms
started to push my body on, my legs stretched, that soft wind that before was
caressing my face now was a Tramontane that opposed resistance to my body.
I had overtook
the second girl, I was reaching the first one. How was it possible? They have
told me that their time was under the three minutes and the last time, at
school, I did 3.34''. I turned myself to the bleachers. I didn't see them, they
speeded too fast for my eyes like when you are in the motorway and from the
car's window you look at the fields that speed over our eyes. Something was
wrong...
My skin was
incandescent, my skin tone was red, I put and hand on my heart. It was
beating uncontrollably.
I slowed down
and I arrived third at the end of the competition.
Giulia ran to
me, I hugged her falling literarily on her. "Great! You were winning. You
have run to fast during the last 300 meters, but then you stopped, what a pity.
Gaia, is there anything wrong? You are a dead weight. Gaia, you are
shivering.". I couldn't see her face because my sight was tarnished, but I
could imagine her face in that moment: a mask of curiosity and terror mixed
together.
"The...
Tension." I gasped.
It wasn't only
tension, it was another thing. Giulia couldn't understand it. The only people
who could understand were mum, dad and grandma.
Now I was
really afraid. Maybe, my moment was really come, my magical powers were showing
them.
